Liberty began operating in 1953 with 4 vehicles and has evolved through mergers, new ventures and acquisitions into one of the largest privately-owned transportation companies in New York State. Today it operates over 330 vehicles ranging in size from 25-foot passenger vans to 60-foot articulated buses.
Each year Liberty transports almost 30 million passengers and covers over 10 million miles in the New York metropolitan area, primarily servicing all of Westchester County with an Express route into Manhattan.
Liberty employs approximately 550 union and 140 non-union employees at 2 locations within Westchester County. Its headquarters are located at 475 Saw Mill River Road in Yonkers, New York 10701.
Through out its history, Liberty has been recognized as an
award-winning transportation provider. It is a prior recipient of
the prestigious American Public Transit Award as the most
efficiently run system of its size in North America. In 1998,
Liberty received two awards from the NYS Public Transit Safety
Board; the first in recognition of the development and
implementation of an Innovative Safety Program and the second in
recognition of Superior Achievement in Preventive Maintenance.
